Everything Is Falling Apart.

The soap dish in my bathtub is no longer attached to the wall, due to the fact that I am an idiot and used it to help pull myself out of the tub last night. SIGH. Now not only do I have to devote a chunk of my weekend to replacing it, in my own, inimitable, fumbling-around-being-no-good-at-DIY way, but I'm also not going to be able to take a shower for days while various adhesives dry. I really, really want to whine about this a whole lot, but, well, I know people who are currently without power for at least a week after the hurricane, so I guess I probably shouldn't complain too much. Things could always be worse.

[ETA: I take it back. No DIY for me this weekend. Apparently a replacement ceramic soap dish is not to be found in Socorro, and I'm not driving all the way to Albuquerque tomorrow just to buy one. And if I'm going to have to do the work anyway, I'm not putting the nasty, chipped-up old one back in. So it looks like I'm going to be using the old "tape a garbage bag over the hole so it doesn't get wet" trick for a little while.]

  1. If you find one after an online search, I can pick one up in ABQ for you and bring it by when I pass through later this month. (The invitation to join us for Thanksgiving dinner is still valid, too.)

    1. Aww, that's sweet of you to offer! Thanks! Although I think it's probably useless. I did order one online, and it came already, but it doesn't fit properly. It's got a tile on the back that's the size of a standard tile, which makes perfect sense. But the old one has a much larger tile, and you can see how, when they originally installed the thing, they had to cut away part of two different tiles to accommodate it. I suspect it's some odd, non-standard thing, or maybe it's just old enough that they don't make them like that anymore. Certainly in all the looking I did, there were no descriptions anywhere of different tiles sizes, just different soap dish sizes. I'm afraid I'm just going to have to reinstall the old one, after all, and save the one I bought for when I finally get the bathtub re-tiled. Which is not going to be soon, what with having just bought the car and all. Ah, well.

I think you can count me in for Thanksgiving, though, assuming that my throat is sufficiently recovered by then for me to actually be able to talk to people. Which it had darned well better be.
