Some Random Things About My Life At The Moment

I am currently wearing an old t-shirt that says, "All stressed out and no one to choke." I should not ever wear this shirt. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Only slightly related to this: Gmail changed their interface slightly, and I had a horrible, panicky moment when I couldn't find anything. Aargh, change! I fear change! Especially when I've programmed movements for accessing things the old way into my cerebellum and am no longer consciously aware of what I'm doing.

On a much more awesome note, I saw a huge-ass meteor streaking overhead on my way in to work. And the Perseid peak isn't even for a couple of nights yet!

Also of the awesome: we successfully saved the universe in the Star Wars RPG I've been playing. (Well, I say "we." I don't know how much credit I can personally take.) It's a weird experience. I'm not sure I've ever played in a campaign before where we had a huge, over-arching goal and actually achieved it.

  1. In your defense, I don't think the GMail redesign is particularly good. If anything, I think it helps facilitate not know where anything is, or clicking the wrong button. I may get used to it, but I'm already looking for a way to switch it back, should it come to that.

  2. Well, I'm done panicking about it. They've mostly just moved the links I was looking for slightly, after all, and I'm sure I'll get used to it quickly enough. But I do feel like there's something that'sslightly off about it that might not just be due to unfamiliarity.

It did at least finally prompt me to disable that stupid buzz thing, as the little multicolored icon seemed even more prominent now and was seriously annoying me.

  3. My thing this morning was "OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO MY MONITOR".. then the coffee kicked in.

  4. I mostly don't like that, to select any messages, I have to go through a pull-down menu instead of just clicking it. That, and the placement of the "Compose mail" button, right on top of the Inbox. I'll probably get used them -- I don't think Google's going to give me much of a choice -- but they don't do much for actual usability.

  5. Smooge: I'm glad to know it's not just me. :)

Fred: Part of what threw me, actually, is that I never use the option to select messages and barely knew it was there. Suddenly, it was very obtrusive, only I wasn't sure what it did. I thought at first that if, say, I pulled "starred" from the menu, it would show me my archived starred messages, like the link does, but when I tried it it did absolutely nothing, since I didn't have any starred messages in my inbox. And the "starred" link was hidden with my less-often-used labels. So I had this hyperventilating moment of "OMG I CAN'T GET AT MY ARCHIVED MAIL!" before I realized I was being stupid.

But, really, a pull-down menu seems like a weird way of doing that.
