Stray Thoughts

I really didn't have anything in particular I felt like writing about tonight, so I thought I'd just spew forth some of the random thoughts that have passed through my head recently but that didn't seem particularly blog-worthy on their own. Don't look for any rhyme or reason here, folks, 'cause there ain't gonna be any. Ready? Let us begin...

I thought that going to the 24-hour Wal-Mart at 11:00 PM to do my shopping would be a great idea, because there'd be hardly any people there. Turns out this is not the case. Yeah, there were hardly any shoppers, but apparently that's the time when all the employees swarm forth across the store and do all kinds of intense, aisle-blocking, store-wrecking, loud-noisy-machinery-involving stuff. Let this stand as a warning to the rest of you night people. Hmm, maybe next time I'll try going at 3:00 AM instead...

I've been trying to decide which is more annoying: that "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" kid, or the guy with the cell phone who walks around going "Can you hear me now?" I'm leaning towards Dell-boy, but it's kind of a tough call. I was thinking about taking a poll. (Note: If you are in an area of the world that does not get these TV commercials, consider yourself extremely lucky.)

Omar Sharif is really cool-looking in that black outfit in Lawrence of Arabia. I want a costume like that. Well, OK, maybe not. I'd probably look stupid in it. But, you know, I do live in the desert...

Somebody on a mailing list I'm on pointed out the existence of this CD. I'm not really all that into metal, but I gotta get this one. Must wait for next paycheck...

It suddenly occured to me the other day that I don't miss Enterprise at all. Usually, when there's a show I'm following regularly, I spend the summer rerun period impatiently waiting for it to start back up again and speculating wildly about what the resolution to the cliffhanger will be, if there was one. But I honestly haven't really thought about Enterprise at all, except when somebody else brings it up. And this despite the fact that there's currently a poster of Malcom Reed hanging in my living room. (It came out of an issue of Star Trek Communicator, which I bought to read while having my oil changed at Jiffy Lube, since, uncharacteristically, I'd forgotten to bring a book. It's a very pretty picture of him, so I figured I might as well do something with it.) Poor Enterprise. I suppose it's faded from my mind in large part because I've actually had new stuff to entertain myself with over its rerun period -- new episodes of Farscape and my introduction to Buffy on DVD -- but I'm afraid a lot of it is just that it's been a pretty forgettable show. Even if I did rather like the cliffhanger.

Wow. There were rather more random thoughts there than I'd expected...
